STAGE I U3 & U4 NUCLEAR POWER PLANT CERNAVODĂ

As part of the pre-project phase for completing Cernavoda Units 3 and 4, the technical assistance services ensured the verification of the technical documents elaborated by CanduEnergy (Analysis and Design Checks of Reactor Building RB and Service Building SB) by elaborating a technical report for each of the two documents subject to verifications. The existing civil structures had to be analyzed and qualified according to existing codes and standards, analyzing the possibility to use them 60 years after commissioning.

SEISMIC ASSESSMENTS FOR GRONINGEN REGION
2020 – 2024 | The Netherlands| Seismic assessment
The earthquake zones from Groningen undergo a large-scale retrofitting project, due to the potential damages caused by induced seismic actions generated by gas extractions on one of the largest onshore gas fields worldwide. The existing built environment is not earthquake-proof, so actions for minimizing the earthquake risk started with regional assessments implemented by Arup by means of standardized procedures for data collection, seismic hazard maps and building-level seismic evaluations. We worked on more than 200 addresses for building BIM models along with as-built and retrofit drawings, modelling URM and timber-framed buildings for non-linear static Pushovers, non-linear kinematic analyses, model response spectrum analyses and eventually design of retrofit measures following a standardized catalogue of measures.

POST-FIRE CRAIOVA AIRPORT ASSESSMENT

The scope of the assignment was to evaluate the structural damages caused by the fire from the 18th of March 2024 for the concrete and steel elements from the new Airport under construction in Craiova. Non-destructive tests were performed for the structural assessment of the elements affected by the fire. Based on the data collected during the post-event site inspections, the structural evaluation of the RC and steel elements established if the fire action affected their strength and stability and if strengthening measures are needed.

IRON GATE I HIDROPOWER PLANT EQUIPMENT ASSESSMENT

In order to identify the causes of the reported malfunctions and to rectify the faults in the components of the turbine rotor blades, it was discovered that the guide of the distribution column was detached, and some fastening screws failed in shear. Therefore, detailed inspections and analysis were needed to identify the causes of the bolt failures, along with proposed solutions for avoiding similar future damages. Working with an extended multidisciplinary team from Politehnica Timisoara we performed 3D digital microscopy fractography analysis on the broken section of indented hex screw head and FEM models for the global analysis of the turbine.

UTILITY BUILDING INFILLED SLAB SUPPORT ASSESSMENT FOR THE US EMBASSY

During the construction of the first level concrete slab of the Utility Building, a temporary opening was created to accommodate the installment of a large fire pump equipment. Due to significant deflections and cracking observed since then, temporary extendable props needed to be installed under the slab as a temporary support method. The requirement was to propose a permanent support system to limit slab deflections caused by the opening, without interfering with the complex equipment and piping systems inside the room. To ensure a smooth installation of the new steel structure for slab support and to avoid collisions with the existing facilities, a 3D laser scan was done prior to designing the proposed intervention.

STRUCTURAL TOWER & MOUNT ANALYSIS

DESIGN OF SPORT COURTS

The growth of multi-family residential developments on the outskirts of Bucharest has created a demand for outdoor spaces dedicated to leisure and sports activities near these newly established neighborhoods. In response, the District 4 City Hall has constructed 11 sports courts, each spanning approximately 1,000 square meters, with an additional 10 currently in the design phase. Our company provided structural design and technical assistance throughout the construction process.

TELECOMMUNICATION TOWERS ASSESSMENT
2022-2023 | Romania | Telecom
The project consisted in structural assessments for 36 telecommunication towers built in Romania around 1990. The towers were designed considering outdated standards for wind and seismic action. Based on previous experience in assessing telecom structures from the US and France for the 5G technological upgrades, our engineers performed site inspections along with non-destructive tests and built numerical models. Retrofit strategies were proposed in order to ensure an adequate safety level, aligned with the latest standards and codes.

REINFORCED CONCRETE CHIMNEY ASSESSMENT AND DEMOLITION PROPOSAL

The 120m high reinforced concrete structure was built in 1975, following a design project from 1966, being one of the first chimneys to be constructed using sliding formworks. Previous assessments revealed major design flaws for this specific type and the severe damage exhibited by the structure led to an immediate need for safety evaluation. Due to its close proximity to newly refurbished buildings and residential areas, the proposed demolition scenarios were challenged by numerous constraints. We analyzed a partial demolition scenario, where a maximum 40 m height limit was determined, in order to comply with strength and stability requirements, while minimizing the demolition works.

SINGLE-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX

The residential units are part of a housing complex comprising 17 properties, designed to reflect the investor’s view on how a chic and affordable suburb neighborhood should feel. With a design inspired by front-opened courtyards and private leisure spaces placed under lavish porticoes, the units were designed for medium-sized families willing to embrace the Moroccan-inspired architecture style. The details chosen for the front façade and the lighting system work as a focal point, where finishing texture and elegant grating systems create a marvelous game of light and shade during nighttime. Vibrant colors create a fresh interior design, well suited for young and modern families, being well aligned with the outer shell inspired by Moorish architecture.

PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY BUILDING COMPLEX

Remedia, one of the biggest pharmaceutical chains from Romania experiences the challenges of increased business demand in terms of storage and supply capacities, with limited available space. Ensuring a successful project which targets major technological upgrades, we were responsible for assessing the existing structures, proposing layout reconfigurations and extensions of the existing facilities, A/E design, along with buildings permits and technical assistance during the construction phase.

POWER EQUIPMENT SUPPORTING STRUCTURE

The site inspection and structural assessments were required in order to establish the causes that led to inclinations of the steel structure supporting the power equipment in Pestis, Hunedoara county. Given the recorded deformation, the client also required an extensive assessment in order to establish the compliance with structural safety requirements in terms of strength and stability. Given the lack of an adequate foundation system, the technical evaluation proposed remediation measures for the soil, along with a rigorous structural monitoring program.

WINERY COMPLEX IN GURA VADULUI

The project aimed to valorize the natural resources by developing a vineyard complex, at the same time enhancing the existing architectural heritage which was I an advanced state of decay. As part of the feasibility study, the Manor House was proposed to be retrofitted and rebuilt, so that it can be properly restored while preserving the charm of the historic building. The design concept proposed natural materials and an exquisite glass staircase hallway from where visitors can admire the surrounding vineyards. The color-code used in the 3D rendering combined warm shades of light beige for the façade and natural wooden brown for the windowsills, creating a charming view in harmony with the green fields.

FIRE-SAFETY FOR EXISTING WAREHOUSES

In order to obtain fire-safety permits for an existing industrial facility used as premises for Orbit Real Estate company, engineering and architectural assessments needed to be performed. While assisting our client throughout the permitting process, we managed the entire team of experts for A/E and building facilities, while ensuring an optimal intervention scenario, customized for the business needs and the structural constraints of an existing building of about 8500 sqm.

ROOF DESIGN OPTIMIZATION FOR SNOW LOAD

The roof structure of the multi-purpose hall designed for Tulcea, Romania needed a supplementary evaluation to account for snow load and piled snow load. For such a large roof surface which also supports heavy equipment, snowdrifts represented a valid design constraint, which doubled the regular snow load. The steel structure along with the thin-walled plates covering 4357 sqm had to be redesigned in order to ensure a proper safety level for climatic actions.

DESIGN AND BUILD – COLD STORAGE WAREHOUSES

For business owners and investors, ensuring a timely completion of storage facilities is of outmost importance. Therefore, making best use of our experience in designing complex and innovative structures, we proposed a structural system made of built-up cold formed steel elements, in order to significantly reduce the material costs and the time required for the construction. We truly believe we can ensure an adequate quality control and design compliance by assisting the construction teams during the assembly phase. For the industrial building having around 600 sqm, the assembly time was only 1 week.

DESIGN AND ASSESSSMENT OF TANKS

The structural assessment of above ground and underground fuel tanks was required to extend their life-time and ensure the safety standards compliance. The oil reservoirs were built before 1977 Vrancea earthquake and since then, the seismic design code of Romania changed several times by increasing the seismic action. The technical evaluations performed included ultrasonic non-destructive testing for measuring the steel plate thickness of the reservoirs and also analytical and numerical analyses. The structural calculations considered external climatic loads (wind, snow) and the sloshing phenomenon produced by earthquakes. Retrofit strategies were proposed in order to extend the life-time of the reservoirs.

WINERY PRODUCTION AND STORAGE FACILITY

With more than 100 years of history in Romania, ZAREA is one of the largest Romanian companies producing alcoholic beverages. The factory is located in an old industrial platform in Bucharest and due to the extensive growth of the company, the need of increasing the production and storage capacity led to a challenging design theme for the upgraded industrial flow. We provided solutions which met the technological needs of the client, ensuring also A/E design solutions which comply to the latest fire-safety standards. As part of the industrial building complex, three new buildings units were built and one of the existing warehouses was extended and refurbished.

SANDWICH PANELS COMPLIANCE EVALUATION

A technical evaluation was needed in order to determine the cause for numerous non-compliances in the form of visible deformations observed after the installment of the sandwich panels for the warehouse structure. By means of non-destructive ultrasonic tests the steel plates thickness resulted 0.5 mm, lower than the one which should have been installed, namely 0.6 mm, as per the contract signed with the supplier. Moreover, the minimum thickness recommended by the supplier was 0.6 mm to avoid blistering effects for the sandwich panels. Moreover, the evaluation report highlighted design flaws in terms of wind load evaluation and the lack of designed connections for the sandwich panels.

PARK & RIDE STEEL CANOPY

Answering the needs of rapidly growing suburbs, the new subway station Tudor Arghezi was part of the project for extending the public infrastructure in Bucharest. The scope of work for Anotech was the design of a steel structure supporting the glass canopy for the Park & Ride facility.

TIMISOARA-ARAD RAILWAY CIVIL BUILDINGS MODERNIZATION

This project involves comprehensive seismic retrofitting of seven existing train stations, ensuring enhanced safety and resilience against seismic activity. Additionally, we provide expert consultancy and structural design services for the development of a new auxiliary building, integral to the modernization of the Timișoara-Arad railway line.

ROWATER – TELECOM TOWERS SURVEY AND STRUCTURAL ASSESSMENT

Anotech conducted a comprehensive site survey for two telecom towers situated in the Moldova region. This survey involved rigorous tower climbing to assess the physical condition of the structures, along with precise measurements to gather essential data on their dimensions and configurations. Additionally, we performed a thorough structural assessment to evaluate their overall integrity and compliance with industry standards. This multifaceted approach ensures that the towers are safe, reliable, and capable of supporting the necessary telecommunications equipment, providing our client with valuable insights for any future upgrades or maintenance needs.

DISTRICT 4 – MODULAR SCHOOLS REHABILITATION

We conducted site surveys and inspected the technical deterioration of the structures, installations, and architectural elements. Our structural assessment presented challenges, particularly due to the use of modular containers constructed with Class 4 cold-formed steel elements, as defined by Eurocode 3. In response to our findings, we proposed technical solutions to ensure that all performance levels are met effectively.

CHIMNEY SUPPORTING STEEL STRUCTURES

The thermal power plant located in Pitesti, Arges county experienced visible degradations for the steel structures supporting the chimneys, so a technical assessment needed to be performed to ensure the fulfilment of structural safety standards. The steel structures were inspected by means of NDT tests and measurements performed on site in order to build the FEM models for the structural analyses. Given the slenderness of the structure, the analyses revealed stiffness non-compliances and therefore, adequate strengthening measures were proposed.

PRODUCT DESIGN: TABLEWARE GRAPHIC DESIGN CONCEPT PROPOSAL

Anotech worked on a concept proposal based on one of the core principles of the European Union: collaboration, equity and respect in diverse cultural environments. Starting from the requirement to design of a tableware set intended to be used by EEAS during formal dining meetings with third countries representatives, we shaped a sample collection expressing the pure meaning of building bridges. Following the representative Ecuadorian design, the chosen leitmotif is the Andean symbol Chakana, an abstract representation of connections and collaborations between individuals and communities. The stepped cross depicts the path towards cultural identity in diversity, as a means to promote solidarity and fairness between the EEAS and International Organizations.

SUNPLAZA WINDOW SHOP STRUCTURAL DESIGN

DESIGN OF MODULAR HOUSES

We focused on designing modular constructions using recycled maritime containers, adhering to the latest standards for sustainability, circular economy, and energy efficiency. Unique challenges arose from the structural limitations of the maritime containers, which rely on steel diaphragms for lateral stability and columns to support gravitational loads. Modifying these containers to create new openings for windows and doors required careful retrofitting of the original structures to maintain integrity and stability.
